What to expect

The best way to explore the countryside of Amsterdam is to go by E-fatbike. Explore Volendam, Katwoude, Monnickendam and Marken and its beautiful surroundings, cultural and culinary highlights on your super cool E-fatbike, with a range of 60 km per charge, on journey for 3.5 or 4.5-hours.

From Volendam you will ride along the lake, or choose with your guide to explore the polder (low lands of the Netherlands). A nice opportunity is this special arrangement: by E-fatbike you ride from Volendam via Katwoude to Monnickendam and afterwards up on to Marken.

Start your tour in de famous old-harbor of Volendam where you can see the tradtional houses, soak up the fishing village atmosphere and pick up souvenirs for those at home or a memento for yourself. See the famous maze ‘Doolhof’ in Volen-dam with small streets and cute little houses.

Cruise on to Katwoude. This nearby village is both nationally and internationally known for its cheese farms. Many tourists visit this tiny village to see how the famous Dutch cheese is made.

Monnickendam, with its well-preserved historical center, is the third stop on this trip. This monumental city is known for its smokehouses, three churches and shipyards. Take your time walking the streets of the city center and head to the harbor to check out the boats and stop at one of the canal side terraces for a refreshing drink and a snack.

Continue your tour from Monnickendam to the former island Marken. Marken is a stunning town with lovely bridges over the small canals and really nice wooden façades. At present, Marken is connected with the mainland by a dike, but until 1957 Marken was an isolated island.

From Marken you can take the boat back to Volendam. Since 1933, the Volendam- Marken Express has been sailing between two old world-famous villages Volendam and Marken. • It is never allowed to rent or drive one of the tour operators vehicle when you are intoxicated by alcohol or drugs
• It is not allowed to drive on the highway with your vehicle. You are obliged to always drive on the stated bike paths
• Always be aware of the residents and other road users. It is not allowed to use your claxon unnecessarily, always drive slowly when passing wanderers and other bikers and always create enough space for other road users
