More than 1.1 million people were murdered behind the barbed-wire fences of Auschwitz between May 1940 and January 1945. How could this happen?
Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. is the most comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the history of Auschwitz and its role in the Holocaust ever presented in North America. It is now on view at the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in Lower Manhattan for a limited engagement.
The exhibition brings together more than 700 original objects and 400 photographs from over 20 institutions and museums around the world. Many of these artifacts are on view for the first time in the United States.

Directions via subway: 4/5 line to Bowling Green, 1 Rector Street, R to Rector Street or Whitehall and walk west along Battery Place. Directions via bus: M5, M15 to South Ferry; M20 to Battery Park City; M9 to West Thames. Downtown connection bus: free bus service that connects Battery Park City with the South Street Seaport (stops right in front of museum). If you are arriving by ferry or citi bike you will stake the Staten Island Ferry to South Ferry Terminal.
