Chatsworth House is renowned for the quality of its art, landscape and hospitality, and it has evolved through the centuries to reflect the tastes, passions and interests of succeeding generations.

Today, Chatsworth contains works of art that span 4,000 years, from ancient Roman and Egyptian sculpture, and masterpieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds and Veronese, to work by outstanding modern artists, including Lucian Freud, Edmund de Waal and David Nash.

There are over 30 rooms to explore*, from the magnificent Painted Hall, regal State Rooms, restored Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery.

*Select rooms on the upper floor of the house will be closed for annual conservation during Christmas at Chatsworth.

Important information

Please note that we do not allow prams, pushchairs or rucksack style baby carriers in the house.  We do offer a limited supply of alternative baby-carrying equipment. Please ask staff on arrival at the house.

Please also note that we only allow small bags in the house. Storage is available in the left luggage room near the house entrance.

Please be aware that selected works from the Devonshire Collection including the sculpture A veiled Vestal Virgin by Raffaelle Monti are currently on loan to Sotheby's, New York as part of Treasures from Chatsworth: The Exhibition.

garden

The 105 acre garden is the product of nearly 500 years of careful cultivation. Although some points of interest have been replaced to make way for new fashions, the garden retains many early features, including the Canal Pond, Cascade and 1st Duke's Greenhouse.

Improving the fabric of the garden is fundamental to maintaining its heritage. In 2018 we celebrate the continued reinvigoration of the grounds with the completion of planting at the Trout Stream, widespread hedge renovation, ongoing path upgrading, as well as redeveloping the Rock Garden south of Strid Pond.

The water features play during the open season from 11am until 5pm. Please be aware that the water features are gravity fed and reliant on the water levels in the lakes above Chatsworth. The active times may change due to rainfall.

The farmyard

The farmyardat Chatsworth has been a favourite day out for children of all ages since 1973.

What child doesn’t love to meet ponies and lambs, take a trailer ride, and then swing, climb and splash around in the great outdoors?

So, if your young ones like to meet animals, make new friends, try new things and play all day, they are going to love our farmyard and playground. There are also special activities during Easter, Halloween and Christmas.

We want the grown-ups to have a great time too, so you can enjoy refreshments in the café or browse the shop.

The farmyard and playground also welcomes schools and education groups.
